What is the ADA?
The ADA is the American Dental Association. They are a group of the majority of dentists out there, and they do advocating for dentists. The ADA also products, and offer great continuing education for dentists to make sure that they’re staying on top of all of the latest and greatest trends in dentistry.
As a dentist, do you have to apply to be a member of the ADA?
To become a member, you have to be a dentist and there is a membership fee every year. It allows you to be a member of basically three groups within the United States. The National American Dental Association, the statewide organization called the Tennessee Dental Association, and then your District Dental Society, which is on a more local basis.
We are part of Murfreesboro, Tullahoma, and part of Smyrna on a local basis to just get together, meet as dentists, have continuing education, and work together to improve dentistry.
Does every dentist have to be a member of the ADA?
No, all dentists don’t have to be a member of the ADA. I choose to because I do think that there is a lot of great information out there that can help make dentists the best that they can be.
Is there a state licensing in order to be a dentist?
There is a state licensing. So you have to be a board-certified dentist and pass a board exam. The Tennessee Dental Board is in charge of all of the procedures and regulations for being licensed in the state of TN.
